Naturally the Enginemen’s was not the only society formed specifically to serve employees within the railway industry. As with its origins being with the Midland Railway, other railway companies provided the founding ground for the formation of similar societies.

The exact number is unclear but included are:
London Midland and Scottish Railway (Northern) Friendly Society
NER Servants’ Pension Society
London Midland and Scottish Railway Salaried Staff
(Emergency Fund) Friendly Society
British Railways Southern Region Death, Injury and Provident Society
Great Northern Railway Sick and Funeral Allowance Fund
GWR Enginemen & Firemen’s M A S Society
GER Employees’ Sick & Orphan Society
LMS Railway Running Department Insurance Society
Great Central Railway Friendly Society
NER Central Station & District Railwaymen’s Friendly Society

Of these societies it is believed that today only one other remains open to new business but on a much reduced scale to the Enginemen’s.
